Happy 7th Birthday, Ava & Alexis!!

Well, the twins’ birthday has come and gone and, man, was it a crazy day. It’s hard to believe that the girls are already seven like it’s actually blowing my mind. How is it that those two tiny humans are growing into young women? I would like for them to stop growing, please! Ava and Alexis are so full of life and joy and it makes me so proud to call them mine! This year was already going to be different because of the pandemic, but we weren’t exactly prepared for everything that went down.

Quarantine Birthday

Having a birthday during a pandemic is not easy, as we have come to find out. We wanted the girls to have the birthday party of their dreams, but with social distancing and the threat of COVID looming over us, having a party for all of their friends and family just wasn’t possible. So, we did what we could to surprise them. Justin and I told them that we were just going to have a day in the kiddie pool. We lied. What we had planned was bigger than any of the kids could imagine. We rented a water slide and a Velcro wall! Somehow, we managed to keep the girls inside as the guys worked to set up their birthday surprise.

The look on their faces was absolutely priceless. We worried about their disappointment with not having a full-blown birthday party, but once they saw their giant playground, we knew that they would have a wonderful birthday. Our latest video shows how the day played out and you can watch it here!

A Small Accident

Most of the day was an absolute hit until I decided to use a knife to serve the ice cream cake…I’m fine, but I do have a pretty nasty cut on my finger. I’ve learned my lesson. They do make those cake servers for a reason, come to find out.

Lessons Learned

Overall, their birthday was a huge success. Birthdays don’t have to be about the massive parties or expensive gifts, they can be simply about having fun and celebrating the people who mean the world to you. Our girls may not remember many details about their birthday this year, but I hope they remember how much fun we had and how much we love them. Those are the important parts.
