RV Living // Road Trip with the McClures!

The Little Buddies Preparing to Travel

A Long-Expected Vacation

We finally did it! We took our first ever RV road trip this summer and we can confirm that the hype is real. RV living is definitely different, but it’s also very fun. You may have noticed a few videos that we have posted recently about our RV trip. Ava and Alexis gave us a tour of the luxury RV that we rented and tried to survive in the wilderness “alone”. We shared a video about Jersey’s first time sleeping outside of his crib and a day in our life on the RV. We still have some more RV content coming, but we wanted to take a few minutes and get into what it was really like living on the road with three kids in a cramped space.

Hand Washing All of the Dishes Was Fun…

Did it Feel Like Home?

Living on the RV was an adventure to be sure. In some ways, it wasn’t any different from living at home. Since we brought all of our own groceries, we still cooked and cleaned as we do at home. The notable difference there was the lack of a dishwasher. Which, if you have lived with one for a while, you forget how tedious dishwashing by hand can be.

The Kids Adapted Very Well

Ava Hiding From Her Problems

The kids are used to being able to walk into another room if they are frustrated with their siblings. But on the RV, when they got annoyed with their brother or sister, they couldn’t just go to another space. So, there were some issues with attitude and frustration. But that was to be expected. We made them cool off outside or if you’re anything like Ava, spending time under a blanket seemed to help.

One of the big successes that we had on the trip was that Jersey actually slept in a big bed by himself and didn’t have any issues. He’s big for a two-year-old, but he’s still a toddler and we were nervous about him sleeping on anything other than a crib. But he didn’t get up in the middle of the night and I think Justin convinced him not to make the trek in the dark to our bed in the middle of the night. He did so well but don’t worry, he’s still going to be in the crib for a while.

Ava and Alexis had a great time on the trip, they created some new content for their own channel and had fun visiting the different cities and exploring the RV parks. We think they got an idea of what RV living is really like and they may have a better appreciation for our house.

We loved our trip and we might do it again, but I think I’m owed a beach trip before that happens again. We followed our dream for retirement for 15 years by traveling the USA in a luxury motorhome. Bragging here, ours had everything including a dishwasher in a drawer. We had 3 different TV’s during that time, each one more customized. We loved traveling, the only state we have not visited is Alaska, but we will probably do that by cruise because our youngest daughter and her husband are building a large home with guest cabin at a port town there. One thing we discovered that was fun was to travel the back roads of our country. People are so nice and welcoming. It was nice to discover less popular history spots, which are so interesting, they just are not hugely advertised
